The Story of Raven
Why we set out to build AI that works inside the credit process, and what we learned about trust along the way.
Every credit decision starts the same way: with deal documents and an analyst. Raven began with a simple question. What if the reading, spreading and first draft were completed for the Analyst so they could focus more on their judgement and less on the administrative work on diligence analysis.
It started with decades of credit experience
Anyone who has worked in private credit knows the rhythm. A deal lands. The CIM, the quality of earnings report, the model, the credit agreement and a dozen third-party reports arrive at once. Before anyone can form a view, someone has to pull the numbers out, line them up, check them against each other and write them down.
That work matters. It's also where most of an analyst's time goes, and where small things can slip through the cracks. A figure that changed between two versions of a deck. An addback that doesn't hold up. A definition in the credit agreement that quietly moves the leverage test. Our Founder & CEO, Blair Fleming spent over three decades in corporate credit in both Canada and the US. His experience and passion for the credit space was the true impetus behind Raven’s inception in 2022. Just as Copilot was gaining momentum, Blair founded Raven to usher corporate credit into the future, using AI.

Why credit needed its own layer
General-purpose AI can summarize a document. It can't tell you whether the EBITDA in the CIM ties to the QoE, which basis your covenant is tested on, or how this deal stacks up against your firm's own policies. Credit has a structure of its own, and an AI tool that doesn't know it produces answers that lack accuracy.
So we built that structure first. Raven reads and classifies every document in a deal, indexes the evidence so it can be traced back to the page, and organizes it into a credit vault and knowledge graph shaped around how lenders actually think. Frontier models do the heavy lifting on top of that layer, with your firm's conventions built in.

Inside the process, not around it
Raven places AI inside a credit process. It doesn't replace it. Underwriters still underwrite. The investment committee still decides. Raven does the manual work in between, so people spend their time on judgement rather than initial research.
Because the analysis is stored rather than thrown away after each response, it compounds. Work done once on a deal is there for the whole team, from the first screen through every quarterly compliance certificate after close.
Built to be trusted
In credit, an answer you can't check is worse than no answer at all. That conviction shows up across the platform:
Sourced Answers
Outputs are checked against the source documents and constrained to verified data, with a citation back to the page.
Human Review
Teams review, edit and approve every analysis in a shared workspace, with audit trails and version control.
Data security
SOC 2 Type II certified, with tenant isolation, dedicated encryption keys and role-based access.
Where we are going
Credit teams don't all work in one place, so neither does Raven. Today you can work in the Raven application, through the Raven agent, or through Raven Direct, our MCP connection/Plugin that brings a deal's analysis straight into the AI tools your team already uses.
The goal of Raven has stayed the same: give every credit professional a clear, sourced starting point, and the time to do the part of the job only they can do.
